Thermoplastic Primer
Thermoplastic Primer
Thermoplastic primers enhance the adhesion of thermoplastic road markings and road marking products to a variety of substrates such as but not limited to concrete, metal, composite, or Bitumen. The use of primer is strongly recommended on any substrate that may prove difficult for thermoplastic to adhere to, especially when there is little surface texture.
Thermoplastic Primer 600ml Spray Can
A clear aerosol spray primer designed for the adhesion of thermoplastic road markings onto bituminous and non-bituminous substrates. This primer is an easy to apply, colourless aerosol spray tack coat primer.
- Application Rate: 200 ml/m² to 400 ml/m² ( 1 Roll 100mm x 5 Meters Thermoplastic Tape = 0.5M²)
- Curing Time: @ 25°C 15 – 25 mins
- Road Surface Temperature Range: 0 - 40°C
- Physical State: Aerosol
- Appearance: Colourless
- Odour: Sweet
- Flash Point: -40°C / -40°F
- Solubility: Insoluble
Application of Thermoplastic Spray Primer
All substrates must be dry, firm, solid and free of dust, fat, and oil. On concrete substrates all accumulations of fine particles(Laitance) on the surface must be removed prior to application. Any movement of the substrate should also be rectified prior to spraying primer. It is recommended that the surface is heated before application as this will reduce the drying time.
Substrate surface temperature may range from 0°C to 40°C. Do not apply when surface temperature is above 40°C and/or rapidly rising. Substrate temperature must be at least 3°C higher than the actual dew point. The can should be well shaken before spraying to the substrate. Apply at a rate of between 200 ml/m² to 400 ml/m² depending on density and porosity of the substrate. In any case, continue applying primer until saturation occurs to obtain a thin continuous resin film. On extremely porous substrates a second prime coat may be required. Do not apply the thermoplastic to the primer until the primer is dried as this can cause the primer to evaporate through the thermoplastic and leave bubbles within the finished product.
This product has a shelf life of 12 months when stored correctly in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and in original unopened packaging. The optimal storage temperature is 10°C - 20°C. Once opened this product should be used within 6 months. Do not expose to temperatures greater than 50°C/122°F.
Health & Safety Precautions
Suitable protective clothing, gloves and safety glasses should be worn during application of HiTack Primer. When the product is applied in enclosed areas without natural ventilation, forced ventilation must be arranged. Avoid strong concentration of vapour as well as direct contact with skin or eyes. HiTack Primer is highly flammable; keep away from heat and all sources of ignition and do not smoke. All electric appliances used on the application site must be explosion-proof versions. For further information see our Material Safety Data Sheet.

Application of Thermoplastic Liquid Tack Primer
All substrates must be dry, firm, solid and free of dust, fat, and oil. On concrete substrates all accumulations of fine particles(Laitance) on the surface must be removed prior to application. Any movement of the substrate should also be rectified prior to laying primer.
Substrate surface temperature may range from 0°C to 40°C. Do not apply when surface temperature is above 40°C and/or rapidly rising. Substrate temperature must be at least 3°C higher than the actual dew point. After the pail has been opened and stirred, it can be applied to the substrate by using a short pile roller. Apply at a rate of between 200 g/m² to 400 g/m² depending on density and porosity of the substrate. In any case, continue applying primer until saturation occurs to obtain a thin continuous resin film. On extremely porous substrates a second prime coat may be required.
