Expanding Foam Tape

EXP 6 is a pre-compressed, self-expanding PU foam sealing tape impregnated with a fire resistant polymeric dispersion. Unlike regular expanding foam in a can, EXP 6 Expanding Tape does not harden or crack. It remains permanently elastic, expanding and contracting as joints move, thus creating a flexible weather seal. EXP 6 is available in black (anthracite) or light grey and is supplied with a self-adhesive strip on one side. Once unwound from the roll it will expand without any further assistance.

Expanding foam tape is commonly used for sealing construction joints, including moving joints, and for perimeter sealing around windows and doors. EXP 6 is also suitable for applications including prefabricated concrete elements, skylights, cladding panels, curtain walling and other façade joints.

EXP 6 provides a 600 Pascal (equivalent to wind force 11 - Violent Storm) weather seal for external joints up to 42mm in building and facades up to 100 metres in height. The tape withstands the long term stresses caused by UV light and driving rain. It can also be used as an aesthetic, air, draught or dust seal for internal joints. The vapour permeable joint sealing tape also possesses outstanding thermal and acoustic characteristics, as well as allowing for diurnal movement.

Yes. EXP 6 expanding foam tape is designed to provide a weatherproof seal against wind-driven rain when correctly selected and installed within the specified joint range. It has been independently tested to provide resistance to driving rain at pressures of at least 600 Pa.It is not recommended for sitting water, for sitting water applications we recommend 1000pa Single Sided Foam Tape

Expanding foam tape begins to expand as soon as it is removed from the roll. The time taken to reach its full expansion depends mainly on the ambient temperature and the temperature of the tape.

At room temperature, EXP 6 will typically expand to around 90% of its final size within approximately 15 minutes. In colder conditions expansion will be slower, while warmer temperatures will accelerate the process. Once installed, the tape continues to expand within the joint to form a permanently flexible seal.

For easier installation in warm conditions, EXP 6 can be cooled before use to slow the expansion rate and provide more working time. In colder conditions, warming the tape before installation can help accelerate expansion.

Expanding foam tape should be selected according to the width of the joint it needs to seal. Each EXP 6 tape size has a specified joint range, for example 5–12mm, which indicates the range of joint widths the tape is designed to seal.

Measure the joint width at several points and choose an EXP 6 size whose joint range covers the measurements. For uneven or moving joints, make sure the expected minimum and maximum joint widths remain within the specified range of the tape.
