What is Reflective Tape?

Reflective tape is made from reflective vinyl which is then coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive before being converted into standard and bespoke sized rolls, sheets or gaskets.

Affixit offers 4 standard grades of reflective tape, these are Engineering Grade, Class II, ECE104 Conspicuity Tape and Chapter 8 Reflective Tape.

The construction of each of these tapes differs, this results in different levels of reflectivity and durability.

Engineering Grade Reflective Tape - 2-Year Durability

Affixit’s Engineering Grade Reflective Tape is an economy reflective tape enclosed lens retroreflective sheeting. It’s intended use is on signing applications that require the durability to be up to 2-years, including traffic signs, advertising graphics, or promotional signings. It is made with a polyester face film, so that the sheeting is strong and rugged for demanding short-term signing applications. Furthermore, it is supplied with a permanent pressure-sensitive adhesive and an easy-release paper liner.

Class II Reflective Tape - 10-Year Durability

High-Intensity Microprismatic (HIP) Retroreflective Tape for permanent and temporary traffic signage, high-quality, durable, microprismatic retroreflective tape with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Unique microprismatic construction provides a high level of retroreflectivity for demanding traffic control situations. Omnidirectional retroreflective tape that incorporates tiles of microprisms, arranged in multiple orientations. Ensuring confidence that all signs will perform with uniform visual reflectivity at all sign face orientations.

ECE104 Conspicuity Tape - 10-Year Durability

Conspicuity Reflective Tape is a metallised single layer reflective that is approved to ECE104 Class C. It is constructed with a solid cell design for superior durability and reflectivity, this Conspicuity tape is one of the best available for long-term, compliant vehicle safety markings. Many accidents are avoidable if the driver of the other vehicle had only been able to detect the truck. Reflective contour markings on trucks make detection easy, giving drivers time to see a vehicle, react and avoid a collision. In fact, NHTSA studies demonstrate a 41 percent reduction in side and rear trailer impact when using Conspicuity tape. V-6700Series Conspicuity Tape provides superior reflectivity and may help reduce accidents, prevent injuries and can decrease related costs such as repairs, insurance expenses and fees.

Chapter 8 Tape - Emergency Vehicle Marking - 5 to 7 Years Durability

High Visibility Reflective Film is engineered to improve the day and nighttime visibility of emergency response, utility, and construction fleets. It is built with solid construction instead of air-celled construction like other brands. Solid construction is more durable and long-lasting. Highly reflective vehicle markings can improve detection and recognition, giving drivers more time to react safely and avoid a collision. Collision avoidance may help fleet managers contain costs through lower repair, maintenance, and insurance fees. It offers durable, vibrant daytime colours. At night, its bold, high-quality microprismatic retroreflective elements efficiently return light at a wide range of angles. The single-layer construction simplifies application and eliminates the requirement for edge sealing. Fluorescent colours have a durability of 5 years whilst non-fluorescent colours have 7 years.

How to use Reflective Tape

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, grease and dirt prior to application. Ensure the ambient temperature is within the range specified in the application temperature (refer to the technical data sheet for this information). Once in situ apply pressure to the tape to ensure maximum ‘wet out’ of the pressure-sensitive adhesive).
